Water Conservation

Water Conservation Techniques

Facts

The Earth might seem like it has abundant water, but in fact less than 1 percent is available for human use. The rest is either salt water found in oceans, fresh water frozen in the polar ice caps, or too inaccessible for practical usage. The U.S. population has doubled over the past 50 years, while our thirst for water has tripled. Therefore, as our population grows, the need to conserve water is critical. (Source: EPA website)

Water Use in Texas

Shockingly, 70% of all water usage in Texas is attributed to residential and commercial irrigation systems. Consequently, the correct practice of irrigation as a science and profession is essential for the protection and conservation of the water resources of the state of Texas.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is the regulatory body that not only governs the wise use of our natural resources including water, but also is responsible for the licensing of landscape irrigators, irrigation technicians and others in the irrigation profession. According to TCEQ regulations, “Anyone selling, designing, installing, or repairing an irrigation system in the State of Texas MUST BE LICENSED BY THE TCEQ.”

In recent years, the TCEQ has implemented strict standards for efficient irrigation designs requiring water-saving measures including, but not limited to, mandatory installation of a rain sensor on all new systems, head to head spacing to ensure an even distribution of water, and restrictions against over-spray onto pavement or other design elements that would involve wasted water. This licensing and regulation is one way in which the State of Texas can manage the quality of our potable water and control the impact that irrigation has on the state’s water supply.

Our Commitment to Water Conservation

Sprinkler Pros operates under the license of Lisa Robbins, Licensed Irrigator (LI#23376), and we are committed to upholding the values promoted by the TCEQ regarding good stewardship of the water we use in Texas. Our company exercises our commitment to water conservation through innovative sprinkler design, education, and training for our Sprinkler Pros team members and customers alike.

We specialize in designing smart irrigation systems, not only for new installation but also for sprinkler repairs and upgrades as well. We utilize the latest smart controller technology and additionally cutting-edge, water-saving irrigation products available from Hunter Industries, Inc., many of which have earned the EPA Water-Sense designation. Key components of a smart irrigation system include a smart controller which uses on-site or weather-station data to apply predictive watering strategies. (Read the EPA mini-report on weather-based irrigation controllers for more information.) There are also a variety of sensors designed to interrupt or adjust watering schedules when rain, freezing temperatures, wind, solar radiation, and temperature indicate less water is needed.

These smart irrigation systems are proven to generate savings of up to 50% on customer water bills! This kind of substantial water-savings begins with quality, cost-efficient irrigation design and installation, and is maximized by a scheduled maintenance plan and 24/7 professional water management service. Due to rising water costs and the need to conserve water, irrigation is not something you can just install and forget about. However, we strive to make systematic monitoring and maintenance as care-free and affordable for the customer as possible, while still upholding the integrity of the sprinkler system from year to year.

We pride ourselves on working with every customer to implement water conservation techniques, whether large or small. The end result is that we help the customer save money in the long run, as well as giving them the satisfaction that they are becoming responsible stewards of the environment.

I highly recommend Sprinkler Pros. We had a very complex situation with our large irrigation system and they thoroughly checked everything and were very upfront about what needed to be done and cost. Extremely hard workers and super nice people!
